| Neighbor glad she wasn’t home at time of Taunton slayings
Angela said it is customary, especially when the weather is nice as it was last weekend, for various members of her family to spend time together outside in the driveway and backyard of their Somerset Avenue building. But last Sunday afternoon was different. Her kids were not home and she had gone to lunch with a friend. About 2:30 p.m. she started getting calls on her cell phone warning her that something terrible had just happened in her building. As soon as it became clear Kevin Vargas Jr., 23, and his brother, Shawn Vargas, 21, had been killed, she decided to stay away. State and local police had not made any arrests in the case, according to Greg Miliote, spokesman for the Bristol County District Attorney's Office.
NBA Celtics rally dooms Blazers
The low point came in Friday's 99-87 loss against the lowly Seattle Supersonics in which Portland shot just 37 percent from the field. "We're upset that we are losing, but we've been in this situation before at the beginning of the year when we were losing tons of games," Blazers guard Steve Blake said. "We just have to find a way to fight through it." In the first quarter Portland looked like it had broken out of its slump as the starting lineup of Blake, Jarrett Jack, Joel Przybilla, LaMarcus Aldridge and Roy seemed to gel. Right off the opening tip, Aldridge and Jack each drained jump shots. Roy scored twice, including on a 3-pointer to give Portland a quick 12-6 lead. Portland shot 3 of 6 from three-point range in the quarter. And the offense looked crisp, with Aldridge and Jack each scoring six points and Roy and Przybilla each scoring five.

Stage 4 - Wednesday, July 9: Joinville - Saint-Dizier, TTT, 69 km
On the first day of summer heat in the 2003 Centenary Tour De France, Lance Armstrong and his USPS-Berry Floor squad blazed across the French countryside to a decisive win in Stage 4's team time test. It was a long sought after win for Lance & Co., not just for the four years since Armstrong has dominated the Tour De France. In fact, Lance has wanted this team win for almost a decade. Today, he and his eight teammates got their first ever team time trial victory and as an added bonus, Colombian Victor Hugo Pea, Armstrong's loyal teammate from Bogota (who lives in Piedecuesta), became the first ever rider to wear the Maillot Jaune from the bicycle mad nation of Colombia. Tomorrow it's Pea's 29th birthday and he'll be awarded his weight in Champagne and then take the start wearing the golden tunic of Tour De France leadership.
Romney gets aggressive with Republican rivals
For a liked and respected President to engage in below the belt tactics for political gain, that demonstrates that the Clintons will stop at nothing to WIN. I don't think the Obama campaign team has been preaching Hillary's gender as much as the Clinton campaign operatives have touted Obama's race. Who cares? What if there is a green or purple looking President in Office if they are smart and are able to deliver the goods to the American people? After all, intelligence is sometimes not even necessary to run this high office, as long as they surround themselves with a strong team of governance … well, Ronald Reagan prospered for eight years; unfortunately, Bush No.2 cannot even measure to Reagan's superb acting qualities. I am grateful that we have such a system called Democracy that allows people to express their opinions and choices.
