| B.C. inventor wants to put pop bottle rocket into orbit
CHILLIWACK, B.C. - Mr. Widget wants to go to space. Ken Schellenberg, who has adopted the alter-ego on his company website, wants to put a simple but highly engineered bottle rocket into orbit. Ken Schellenberg, shown in a handout photo, wants to put a simple but highly engineered bottle rocket into orbit. This could be impossible, but the CEO of antigravityresearch.com already holds the altitude record for boosting an elongated pop bottle - propelled by a bicycle pump, water and a bit of soap - into the air. THE CANADIAN PRESS/HO This could be impossible, but the CEO of AntiGravity Research already holds the altitude record for boosting an elongated plastic pop bottle - propelled by a bicycle pump, water and a bit of soap - into the air. Firing the ubiquitous, two-litre plastic container usually consigned to the recycle bin into space might create a whole new definition for space junk, but the dream keeps Schellenberg going.
Extra! UIdaho Student Found Shot to Death
His partner declares after the successfully-averted suicide, the memory of the screaming man on the ledge dancing to avoid the bullets, "Man, you sure have a lot of hostility!" I hope it isn't your sister or your mother who is evantually shot and killed by (Deputy Charles Sciortino). Sad But True .
Bikers, joggers should stay off main alternate routes
The I-64/Hwy 40 reconstruction has created a dangerous situation for joggers and bikers who have long utilized many of St. Louis County's secondary streets. Joggers/bikers are putting themselves (and drivers) at risk by using these now overly populated side streets. I appeal to MoDot and media outlets to encourage bikers/joggers to find safer areas to get their exercise. Side streets such as Clayton, Litzsinger, Warson, Spoede and Conway have often attracted bikers and joggers. Drivers familiar with these areas have learned to share the road. However, the highway closures have brought many new motorists to these streets. The additional motorists, many of them less than familiar with the danger spots along their new routes, are coming precariously close to injuring defenseless bikers/joggers.
Bear with Us
Fox shows a montage of Brian Urlacher being nasty to the tune of U2's "Even Better Than the Real Thing." And Big Fat Meanie, I wouldn't worry about the Bears letting up. They did go for it on 4th and Goal from the 1 up 24-0. Jones gets a couple, then a couple more. San Francisco calls a timeout. Why? Don't they want to make this punishment go quickly? Caldarelli just IM'ed me, summing this game up in three succinct words: "Niners really suck." Grossman has all sorts of time, hits Muhammad way downfield, Muhammad holds on despite being hit as he caught it, and the Bears have 1st and 10 at the 49ers' 36. Benson gets a couple then Grossman hits Moose with a very very low throw on which Moose makes a great fingertip catch just shy of the first. Jones gets it to the 25. Swing pass left to Berrian, but he had to stop to get it, which negates the purpose of the swing pass, and he gets dropped for only one yard.
Mayor nabs alleged burglar with bare hands
OGDEN, Utah, Oct. 24 The mayor of Ogden, Utah, is clearly not one to be trifled with if his capture of a suspected burglar on Wednesday is any indication. Ogden Mayor Matthew Godfrey told the Deseret Morning News that when he heard a noise just outside his house early in the morning, he immediately leaped into action and eventually captured a suspect with his bare hands. "We heard somebody trying to come in our side door, so I jumped out of bed and tried to see who it was," Godfrey said. "Then I heard somebody at the back door." After checking on his family members, the mayor allegedly saw someone leaving his shed with one of his family's bicycles and reacted. "I just ran right the side doors and he was heading across the front lawn riding a bike of ours," he said.
