| Obesity Wake-up Call: Chattanooga Area Employers Make Health An ...
A recent Hamilton County Health Department report found the community wastes over $300 million a year on health care, worker's comp, and lost productivity costs associated with obesity. Now, some companies aim to cut those costs by getting employees healthy. Many people cite "time" as the main reason they don't keep fit. What if instead of taking a coffee break at work, you could take an exercise break? "The Simpsons" continue to provide social commentary today, but could its creators have know this power plant corporate exercise program actually exists to some extent in the Tennessee Valley? "There are 36 different fitness facilities at our corporate, nuclear, hydro and fossil plants," says Sonja Gillespie, TVA's Livewell Manager.

First Edition Cycling News
Two weeks prior to the start of the Tour of California, BMC rider Scott Nydam's father, Ron Nydam was diagnosed with acute leukemia, made worse due to a previous low white cell count disorder. Before stage three started Wednesday morning, Nydam was leading two jersey categories as the event's most aggressive rider and king of the mountain thanks to his courageous back-to-back breakaways in stages two and three. Nydam is using his lengthy breakaways as a form of tribute to cancer patients for the strength and survival they must display on a daily basis. "My breakaway was a statement I was trying to make, [and] even though I didn't make it to the finish by myself, I was out there showing my Dad that I was fighting," said Nydam about his efforts during stage two during which he took over the leader's jersey in the king of the mountains and the most aggressive rider classifications.
Giants take hard road to SB XLII
So in a weird kind of way, it seemed fitting that the Giants gained just 5 yards on three plays and had to call again upon Tynes, who had missed a 36-yarder at the end of regulation. His 47-yard field goal sailed true, and Tynes raced off the field as if he couldn't get to Glendale for Super Bowl XLII fast enough. "I just wanted to get out of the cold," he said. When asked about the final minutes of regulation and overtime, a wry smile crossed Manning's face. "I think we like to make things exciting on this team, and it's another example," Manning said after the Giants 23-20 victory. "We don't like to win the easy way on a short field goal. We like to hit the long one to win it." The Giants took an improbable path to Super Bowl XLII. If the Patriots (18-0) took the interstate, the Giants took a few Forest Service roads.
City paramedic bike team to receive grant tomorrow
The Baltimore Fire Department is receiving tomorrow a $7,125 grant to help support the agency's paramedic bicycle team, the city announced today. Money will be used for portable radios. The bicycle team was established in 1999 after celebrations at the Inner Harbor drew tens of thousands of spectators and made it difficult for bigger ambulances to reach people in need. "As the number of large city events increases, so has demand for Bike Team services," Acting Fire Chief Gregory Ward said in a statement. This year, the bike team is assigned to 11 downtown events expected to draw a total 1.5 million people. .
