A while later, at breakfast, a friend who has a vote in today's Hall of Fame election wasn't feeling cheerful. He was discouraged about one of his favorites, Fred Dean, getting passed over again. He was discouraged because a key Dean proponent had been dismissed from the selection committee for revealing committee secrets. And another thing ... "This is the most cheerless Super Bowl," my friend said. "Even in this room. There's no music. "And the downtown? The only people you see are other writers." But downtown was changing. It wasn't just writers anymore. Cops on bicycles and horses. Fans. Players.
NGoudjo hopes to cast ring spell on Magic Man
Defending world champion Paulie (Magic Man) Malignaggi might accomplish a lot of things in tonight's world-title bout against Hermann NGoudjo in Atlantic City. He might win a decision. He might even dominate the fight. Perhaps, if he can accumulate enough of his pitty-pat punches, he might score a technical knockout. One thing he will not be able to do, however: He will never wipe the smile off NGoudjo's face. The Cameroon-born, Montreal-based boxer smiled all the way through his bout with Jose Luis Castillo, who hits a lot harder than Malignaggi. He smiled through his fight with Randall Bailey outdoors at the Jarry Tennis Centre, despite heavy rain, hail, lightning and a couple of occasions when he was lucky to survive the round. .

On Your Mind
I usually get some kind of response from the Senator (Jon) Kyl, but it is obviously a form statement. I may not agree with everything the congresswoman has done but I am glad she is working as hard as she is for us. But if you have to hold up a mirror to see your left hand, you won’t agree with anything a so-called "liberal" does. I am outraged to find out that a new building of the big box store size (almost 30,000 square feet, multi-story) is to be built right across the street from my home. I live just off El Camino Real on Calle Gardenia in the Village Meadows area. This is an established residential area with many residents having lived here 30 plus years. We have lived here for 17 years and this is the first we have heard of this plan. The building is for the new Boys & Girls Club.
